Measure Moisture in Gypsum and Panelboards

Imagine having the standard for quality control in the palm of your hand. For panelboard and gypsum manufacturers, radio frequency (RF) portable moisture meters achieve that.

For efficient gypsum and panelboard manufacturing, moisture measurement and control are vital. The procedure for creating gypsum boards involves calcining gypsum powder to create a continuous board product with the slurry and then in order to re-solidify the gypsum, drying off the excess moisture.

RF moisture sensors from Sensortech Systems give a penetrating measurement of finished board products to monitor for consistency and product quality, reducing waste to save time and money.

Full-depth measurement of the boards supplies not just surface measurements, but an accurate measurement of the total moisture in the boards. In a manufacturer’s quest for quality assurance, convenient portable moisture meters can get even more granular.

For onsite inspection and quality assurance, hand-held sensors enable spot-checking of gypsum and panelboards throughout the plant. Portable moisture testers such as the PMT-330 from Sensortech are rechargeable, lightweight, and store a number of calibrations.

The PMT-330 supplies a movable, compact sensor for quality assurance departments to assess the quality of finished boards in a non-invasive manner. RF technology eliminates the requirements to insert prongs into a finished product and to destroy it to perform a moisture measurement.

For a non-contact, penetrating, accurate measurement from the palm of your hand, the PMT is based on the same technology as Sensortech’s IMPS-4400 Instant Moisture Profiling System to supply the user with a portable version of its advanced technology.

This technology is both accurate and fast, supplying results in seconds. Typical accuracies of +/- 1.0% of moisture range (to 80%). There are two models of the PMT-330: the PNM330G has a penetration depth of 20 mm (3/4”) and is designed for gypsum.

The PMT-330V is designed for thin sheet applications and veneers and has a penetration depth of 3 mm (⅛ ”). On a full charge, both models work for up to 10 hours operating from 0 - 50 °C (32 - 120 °F).
